I started rowing at RV Rijnland because my family moved to a new home. It was closer and easier to get to and had great facilities. At first I was apprehensive, I didn’t want to start somewhere totally new again. So my mother decided to try and get a couple of people to row with me from the BSN (British School).
It, however, didn’t exactly turn out that way.
We had an enormous response, with over 30 people interested in starting to row. We were warmly welcomed by all at the club, given a tour, shown how to use the ergometers and even put out in boats, most of us, for the first time ever. Even some of the parents were keen to start! We are now a group of around 26, and have 6 teams from the BSN, being coached by parents with rowing knowledge, and the kind and helpful (and patient) rowers from RV Rijnland.
I believe that we have come along in leaps and bounds, many people starting with no previous knowledge of rowing whatsoever. We had our time trials a couple of weeks back with some very impressive results, considering our experience level. We also tried our hand at the 8-scull, and added to our ever growing knowledge of this wonderful sport.
We are all immensely proud of ourselves and I do believe that we have the willpower, potential and spirit to drive us to greater heights.
On behalf of all the BSN rowers I would like to thank everyone from RV Rijnland for their support and guidance in helping us reach our full potential.
